Straight Outta Hypocrisy
California Governor is crowing about hosting the SuperBowl in Los Angeles, when the state is under COVID Emergency. The disconnect is stunning.
I don’t watch sports, so aside from glancing commentary, or connection to a larger issue, you’ll rarely hear me talk about it. I like to party, so have been to plenty of SuperBowl parties—but I can’t say I remember any detail about the actual games, or even the halftime shows.
Which brings me to Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood—the “no business like show business” town—and the new SoFi Stadium, where the recently rebranded L.A. Rams (yawn) and the San Francisco 49ers (double yawn) were duking it out on Sunday for the NFC conference title.
The Rams won, but what got equal news and attention is the fact that Earvin “Magic” Johnson (who has financial fingers in both SoFi and the Rams) posted pictures to his Twitter of him posing with city and state leaders Gov. Gavin “Hair Gel” Newsom, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, and L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti at the playoff game.
Newsom never ended California’s state of emergency, and recently reinstituted the mask mandates across the state for outdoor and indoor venues until February 15. Venues like SoFi Stadium are under that diktat.
On top of that, the stadium is in L.A. County, which has doubled down on not only mask mandates, but vaccine passports. It’s Branch Covidian Central up there, which is why you won’t see me frequenting the County any time soon.
But apparently, the mask mandates do not apply to basketball legends or the political elite (what else is new). Notice the lack of face coverings in these photos.
This is the same Magic Johnson who ripped basketball star Kyrie Irving for refusing to get vaccinated, spouting off about “safety.”
Is this behavior “safe,” Magic? The data shows that vaccinated and boosted individuals can still spread COVID—how are you protecting these people you’re hugging up with?
But, I digress….
From the California Globe:
While teens, children and even toddlers are still being forced to wear masks all day long in schools throughout the state, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and several of the state’s Mayors were seen and photographed at the NFC Championship game this weekend in Los Angeles without masks on, among 80,000 screaming fans. In fact, masks were not evident on anyone in the stands.
Gov. Gavin Newsom extended California’s State of emergency in November. Then he went on vacation in Mexico, and then went on a book tour for his children’s book. What state of emergency, Gov. Newsom?
“While 5 year olds are forced to mask all day in California, Gavin Newsom and the mayors of LA and San Francisco are enjoying packed events maskless,” many Tweets acknowledged.
Social media exploded with the photos of the governor, Mayor London Breed of San Francisco and Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles with Magic Johnson at the Rams v. 49ers game Sunday.
California State Senator Melissa Melendez pointed out the stunning hypocrisy, not only in Newsom breaking his own mandates, but the fact that His Hairfulness has doubled down on masking children, requiring N-95 masks for all K-12 students in California schools.
So did Assemblyman and District 3 Congressional Candidate Kevin Kiley (R-Rock Star)
Students are being segregated, bullied, and being physically, mentally, emotionally, and intellectually torn down because of these evil mandates which, from the blatant “in your face” posturing of Newsom and Co., mean essentially nothing.
And then there is the fact that Los Angeles is still hosting the SuperBowl in two weeks.
Is Hair Gel going to magically lift the state of emergency in order to justify this? Either California is a dangerous vector of COVID or it is not. If you’re allowing people to flood into Los Angeles, then your state of emergency also means nothing.
But when it comes to greed, avarice, and publicity that favors him, Newsom knows no bounds.
The Super Bowl will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in two weeks, and masks are required.
“As the Globe reported last week, “Despite no masking requirements at recent NFL football games, Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer announced Tuesday that attendees at the February 13, 2022 Super Bowl LVI will be required to wear KN95 masks while at the game at SoFi stadium, unless they are eating or drinking.
Expect to see 100,000 discarded masks in the stands at the end of the game.
More pollution. Newsom is also Mr. Climate Change—riddle me this: How are masks being discarded like so much flotsam and jetsam into the atmosphere helping the environment?
Ferrar ordered masks at Sunday’s game, but fans defied the ridiculous order.
No worries, Crypt Keeper Ferrer. They were simply playing, “follow Dear Leader.”
Love this!
