Like Drinking Water from a Fire Hose: Assassination Attempt Edition
My thoughts and writings on the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump
I started out Saturday thinking it would end with a relaxing date night with my hubby, that eased into Sunday morning where I would polish off a quick article with my coffee, and then head off to church before seeing hubby off for work. Instead, date night, while coupled with good food and good music, was essentially us on our smartphones looking for news on the Pennsylvania Trump Rally and who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump. I was alternating between X, Facebook, and my RedState editorial channel for check ins on information and the hot stories. As soon as I got home, I did some quick write ups on the information we had up to that point, which ended into the wee small hours of the morning—way past my bedtime—to cover this horrible event.
I am very thankful that horror was not made worse by President Trump being seriously wounded or murdered. However, my heart is heavy for the family of Corey Comperatore, the 50-year-old husband and father who lost his life protecting his wife and daughter from the assassin’s bullet. There were two people seriously injured: 57-year-old David Dutch, and 74-year-old James Copenhaver. They were reportedly hospitalized, but are currently in stable condition. May they continue to heal.
Then there are the rally attendees, some harmed physically, all harmed psychologically. There were children there. What kind of monster wants to have children permanently scarred by seeing a president’s head be blown off? Just sick.
As I analyzed and wrote, I did my own processing. The absolute miracle that the bullet intended for Trump only grazed his ear, because at that moment, he turned his head just so. His wherewithal to get up and let the attendees know that he was injured, but not greatly harmed; he could walk out on his own two feet. Then, the iconic image that as far as I am concerned, could well seal him winning the election: He pumped his fist in the air and uttered “Fight!” Hollywood could not have manufactured that moment; the moment of resilience, fortitude, strength, and incredible leadership.
I am heartened by the response I am seeing from not the usual suspects. These are not MAGA or Trump fanatics, but Americans who could have taken or left Trump concerning this election, and many just planned to leave him. People who were once on the fence now realize the stakes, and are calling others to prayer, to political action, and to take a stand.
What I am most heartened by is that the veil has been ripped off the eyes of many, especially in light of the abject failure of the Secret Service. The Deep State is real, and they have done much to destroy our constitutional form of government. I also love how international leaders like Argentinian President Javier Milei are shining a brighter light and connecting the dots that the political left and legacy media in the U.S. and the international left and media are one and the same, and they want to destroy any freedoms we hold dear. In further reflection and prayer, we cannot forget the Trump family; especially Melania Trump, who almost lost her husband. She wrote a beautiful statement that speaks volumes about the person she is and the person her husband is. The link is here.
All the coverage is on RedState and no doubt there will be more, along with some radio hits and analysis. If you’ve been in the dark or just want the perspective from In My Orbit, give them a read and feel free to share.
