In My Orbit...
Five days until the Day of Reckoning. Except for rare instances, in major "turning point" elections (and because voter fraud has become way too prevalent) I choose to go to the polls. So I am diligently preparing my ballot, reading the Propositions and getting to know what judge is who. A site I use to help me do this is the Los Angeles County Smart Voter. Maintained by the League of Women Voters, it gives information on everything on the ballot, from Governor to Propositions. It even shows you where your polling place is, and has helpful links to other websites so that you can make a properly informed decision. The site also lists voter guides for other cities and counties in California.
I plan on rising early on November 2, wending my way to the polling place, and making my voice heard! If you have never taken that seriously before, I urge you to do so now--no matter what your political stripe. Our future as a state and a country depends on it.
I also lend my voice in other ways, on this blog, and sometimes posting and commenting on other conservative sites. One of those sites is Hillbuzz, run by fellow Chicagoans from Boystown (that's the West Hollywood of Chicago) who supported Hillary Clinton in the last election. These guys are part of the PUMAS, who were disenfranchised by the Democratic Party in the 2008 election, and are now a force to be reckoned with. They make it a point to support conservative causes and candidates, and anyone who opposes the policies of the current administration.
The site is not only a wealth of information, but funny and entertaining as well. Hillbuzz asked for ground reports from different states, and I put in a word about what I was seeing/sensing in the City of Angels. They said they plan to post every one, so I'll check later to see if I made the cut.
Shelby Steele succinctly analyzes the crux of November 2 in the Wall Street Journal. A pull quote:
"Next week's election is, among other things, a referendum on the idea of president-as- redeemer. We have a president so determined to transform and redeem us from what we are that, by his own words, he is willing to risk being a one-term president. People now wonder if Barack Obama can pivot back to the center like Bill Clinton did after his set-back in '94. But Mr. Clinton was already a steward, a policy wonk, a man of the center. Mr. Obama has to change archetypes."
And I'll end on a lighter note. A spoof video on one of the major reasons why November 2 will be a Day of Reckoning. View it and laugh, or weep--whatever emotion suits your fancy!
