Déjà Trois: NBC Hosts the Republican Debate in Miami
Ronna McDaniel is officially scraping the bottom of the TDS barrel
The sixteen has been mercifully whittled down to five, and we will be spared the very upright pontifications of former Vice President Mike Pence. Sadly, blowhard Chris Christie still walks among us.
The third GOP Presidential candidate debate is happening Wednesday evening, hosted by legacy media Trump Derangement Syndrome outlet NBC. Hapless RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel is most definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Debate moderators Lester Holt and Kristen Welker do not have a rich history of even-handedness. Welker has just been installed as the host of NBC’s Meet the Press and received significant backlash for airing an interview with former President Donald Trump. It’s dumber than dumb. No matter how you feel about Donald Trump, he is a former president who is under multiple indictments—unprecedented in our history, and a presidential candidate who is ahead of his rivals in the polls. One of those alone makes him newsworthy; but TDS is gonna TDS, so expect Welker to make up for that by leading with questions that give the candidates an opportunity to skewer and attack the former president.
Lester Holt, with his measured, resonant delivery, will probably play the voice of calm and try to wrangle the GOP hopefuls to be respectful and comport themselves. We’ll see how long that lasts.
As I told Jeff Biggs at radio station KTRH Houston this morning, I expect the same stupid questions that have little to do with what Republican or conservative voters care about, and questions on the Israel-Hamas war, with Ukraine possibly on the back burner. NBC has partnered with Salem Media, so its radio host Hugh Hewitt will also be on the moderator panel. How much he will get to do is questionable, but they are making an effort to have a purported conservative voice, if only for appearances alone. This is the same network that in 2018 gave Hewitt a show on MSNBC, then canceled him due to low ratings. Rev. Al and most of the Mess-NBC hosts scrape the bottom of the ratings barrel. Seriously?
Anyways, I don’t expect to hear anything new from the candidates. They have pretty much established their positions, and the elephant in the room is that Trump, the one who leads by 40 percentage points, is not. But, I will dutifully watch and report, so you don’t have to.
Here’s my radio hits with Biggs. Compact, less than 10 minutes.
